Giza Pyramids most-missed tourist site according to Instagram

Global pandemic has caused global lock-down, suspension of international air traffic, and closure of tourist attractions

The #Takemeback hashtag, which is currently trending on Instagram, indicates that Egypt’s Giza Pyramid complex is the most missed tourist attraction among travellers.

The hashtag has been used to show which worldwide sites, attractions and landmarks travellers most yearn to revisit after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic comes to an end.

SavingSpot researchers extracted the location data on 208,362 Instagram posts that include the #TakeMeBack hashtag. They found that it is the famous pharonic site, which is most synonymous with Egypt, that travellers wish to revisit the most.

The researchers also found that the Indonesian island of Bali followed close behind, followed by the Greek gem of Santorini, and the Magic Kingdom Park at Florida’s Walt Disney World.

The Great Sphinx of Giza took sixth place, followed by Paris’ Eiffel Tower. In terms of most missed cities, Giza took fourth place behind New York, Paris and London.

The #Takemeback hashtag, which has been in used since the start of the global pandemic, asked travel junkies in lock-down all over the world to post photos of the places they most wish to revisit.

The coronavirus pandemic, now in its fifth month, has caused a global lock-down, suspension of international air traffic, and the full closure of tourist attractions worldwide.
