Egyptian Politician and Diplomat Amre Moussa was awarded the insignia of Commander First Class of the Swedish Royal Order of the Polar Star. The ceremony took place Tuesday evening at the residence of Swedish ambassador Jan Thesleff in Cairo, where he presented the title on behalf of King of Sweden Carl Gustaf XVI.
The Royal Order of the Polar Star is a highly distinguished insignia awarded by the King of Sweden, a statement of the embassy said, noting that the Royal Order of the Polar Star is a Swedish order of chivalry created by King Frederick I in 1748.
The Royal Order of the Polar Star may be conferred only to foreign nationals in recognition of services and promotion of the relations with the kingdom of Sweden. Its motto is “Nescit Occasum,” a Latin phrase meaning “It knows no decline”, referring to the fixed Polar Star.
Sweden and Egypt maintain close bilateral relations that go back centuries, the statement mentioned, adding that the two countries are collaborating in various areas such as, development and security, gender equality, energy, transportation, and cultural exchange.
Under Sweden’s commitment to Agenda 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Sweden is working closely with the Egyptian government and the private sector, including more than 40 Swedish companies active in Egypt, to build new strong platforms for cooperation.
