Khattab meets Paraguayan FM as part of her campaign to lead UNESCO

“The more you are close to people, the more you are close to the mission” is Khattab’s campaign slogan

Moushira Khattab, the Egyptian candidate to lead the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), met Monday with the Paraguayan Foreign Minister Eladio Loizaga in Asuncion, carrying a message from Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, according to a statement from the official campaign of Khattab.

Khattab added that her slogan will be “the more you are close to people, the more you are close to the mission”.

Khattab expressed her hope of being supported by Paraguay, pointing out that she has the needed skills for the position, as she is an Arab diplomat woman, has worked with UNESCO, and has made important achievements during her work with civil society, the statement read.

In his message, Al-Sisi said that he believes in all countries’ rights in developing the activities of UNESCO, asserting that his vision is to boost education as an important means for all goals of the organisation, according to the statement.

Moushira Khattab is an Egyptian diplomat, was the minister of family and population in 2011, and was the secretary general of the National Council for Motherhood and Childhood. She was also the first Egyptian ambassador to South Africa.
