TE Data loses 3,000 subscribers in Q1

Orange's customer base increases to 630,000, Vodafone gains 34,000 customers 


TE Data, the data communications and internet branch of Telecom Egypt, lost 3,000 subscribers during the first quarter (Q1) of this year for the first time since launching its ADSL services.

The company’s customer base declined to 3.378 million at the end of March compared to 3.381 million subscribers at the end of December 2016.

According to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), the company lost 5,000 home subscribers in Q1 2017, while it added around 2,000 corporate subscribers in the same period.

TE Data lost about 0.7% of its market share settling at 75.3% by the end of March compared to 76% at the end of December 2016.

The company’s revenues increased to EGP 1.15bn during the first three months of the year compared to EGP 1.03bn in Q4 2016, an increase of 11%.

On the other hand, the number of Orange DSL-LINK’s customers increased to 630,000 subscribers at the end of March compared to 625,000 subscribers at the end of December 2016, maintaining its market share of 14%.

However, Vodafone Data was the fastest growing internet company in the local market after its customer base reached 301,000 subscribers at the end of March compared to 267,000 subscribers at the end of December 2016, an increase of 12.7%. The company’s market share also increased to 6.7%.

Additionally, the number of Etisalat internet’s customers increased to 176,000 subscribers at the end of March compared to 170,000 subscribers at the end of December 2016, with a market share of 3.9%.
