Shoukry discusses situation in Libya and Syria with British counterpart

The phone call came within the framework of both sides’ coordination and cooperation in addressing regional issues


Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his British counterpart Boris Johnson on Saturday, in which they discussed the situation in Libya and Syria, according to ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zaid.

The call came within the framework of both sides’ coordination and cooperation in addressing regional issues.

Abu Zaid noted that Johnson stressed upon his country’s keenness to coordinate with Egypt in regional issues, considering its pivotal role in the Arab region.

During the meeting, the British minister reviewed the results of his interviews and contacts during his recent visit to Libya. Meanwhile, Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s efforts in the developments of Libya and the recent meeting with Libyan leaders.

Shoukry asserted Egypt’s commitment to continue its efforts at the regional and international levels to find a solution to the current political crisis in Libya.

Regarding the situation in Syria, Shoukry reviewed his assessment for agreement of the four areas reached at the conclusion of the fourth round of their talks, stressing on the support of Egypt for all efforts to stabilise the cease-fire agreement in all Syrian territories.

Last February, Johnson came to Egypt and met with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to discuss bilateral and regional issues.
