Egypt, Sudan presidents meet in Cairo to launch joint committee sessions

The joint committee is expected to sign bilateral agreements between both countries

The Supreme Egyptian-Sudanese Committee convened on Sunday in Cairo and will run sessions until 5 October, state-owned news agency MENA reported.

The committee this year is being led by presidents Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Omar Al-Bashir, after it was held on the ministerial level in past years.

During this year’s sessions, the two countries are expected to sign bilateral agreements that aim to foster cooperation between both countries in different fields.

On Sunday and Monday, the committee will hold sessions led by senior officials from both countries. On Tuesday, sessions will be held between ministers of both countries, while on the last day the two presidents will preside over the session.

The joint committee includes a number of sub-divisions according to topics in politics, the economy, security, consular affairs, education, culture, water resources, and public services, among others.

The committee first held its meetings in March 2011 in Khartoum, Sudan.
