Meryl Streep wants a word with Clint Eastwood over Donald Trump

Meryl Streep is such a dedicated Democrat that she recently satirized Republican Donald Trump in a fat suit. Now she’s shocked that her “Bridges of Madison County” co-star Clint Eastwood says he’ll vote for Trump.
After actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, 86, told men’s magazine last week that he would vote for Donald Trump, his former co-star Meryl Streep had some clear words for him.

“I’ll have to correct that! I’m shocked. I really am,” Streep, 67, told US magazine Variety in response to Eastwood’s comments. “I would have thought he would be more sensitive than that.”

Eastwood has been an outspoken supporter of the Republican Party for many years and is well known for his conservative political views. In the Esquire interview, he offered some advice to America’s politicians, while also saying it was “boring” listening to the presidential candidates.

“I’d say get to work and start being more understanding of everybody – instead of calling everybody names, start being more understanding. But get in there and get it done,” Eastwood, known in particular for his roles in “The Bridges of Madison County” and “Gran Torino,” told Esquire.

While Eastwood has made appearances at Republican Party events, Streep gave a speech two weeks ago at the Democratic National Convention, underlining her support for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton while clad in an American flag blouse.

In June, the three-time Oscar-winner impersonated Donald Trump at a gala benefit event for the Public Theater in New York.

As the closing act for the gala, Streep as Trump – complete with belly, hairpiece and fake tan – took the stage with actress Christine Baranski, who had donned a pant-suit to impersonate Hillary Clinton. The pair performed the song “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” from the musical “Kiss Me, Kate” by Cole Porter.
