Korea’s Hyundai witnessed an improvement in passenger car sales and shrank its sales decline from 24% to 13% in Q1. Hyundai recorded sales of 12,800 units, compared to 14,700 in a year-on-year (y-o-y) comparison.
Sales included 13 models, most notably Verna, Tucson, Creta, Solaris, Grand i10, New Elantra, Accent RB, Elantra HD, Elantra AD, i10, and Accent HB.
Verna sales declined by 38%, achieving sales of 4,774 units, compared to 7,711 units in a y-o-y. This decline is a slight improvement from the 44% decline seen in the first quarter (Q1).
Tucson occupied the second place, recording sales of 2,553 cars, while the locally manufactured Elantra HD jumped from eighth place to third place after recording sales of 1,015 cars in the Automech Formula exhibition.
Creta followed Elantra HD with sales of 891 cars. Solaris was in fifth place with recorded sales of 699 cars.
Accent RB came in sixth place with sales of about 695 cars, recording a 59% decline, compared to 1,681 cars sold in the same period in 2015.
The sales of Elantra AD reached 640 cars in April after its release in mid-March.
New Elantra ranked eighth with sales of 574 cars, marking a 63% decline compared to 1,550 cars sold from January until the end of April 2015.
Grand i10 came in ninth with sales of 548 cars, recording a 44% decline compared to 981 cars sold in the same period in 2015.
Hyundai i10 came in tenth place with sales of 381 cars, recording a 42% increase compared to only 268 cars sold during the same period last year.
Hyundai has suffered a decline of 24% in its sales during Q1 of 2016 as 8,906 cars have been sold, compared to 11,600 cars sold in Q1 of 2015.
Verna saw the greatest decline in sales in the first three months of this year, selling 3,446 cars, a 45% decline, compared to 6,306 cars sold in Q1 of 2015. Nevertheless, it became the best-selling car in the domestic market.
Tucson came in second place with sales of 1,896 cars during Q1, followed by Creta with 681 units, and Solaris with 499 units.
Grand i10 recorded sales of 465 units, down by 44%, compared to 832 cars sold during the same period in 2015.
Sales of the New Elantra have declined by 60%, where 464 units were sold, compared to 1,174 units, influenced by the launching of New Elantra AD.
Accent RB saw a significant decline of 70% with 416 sold units during the first quarter of the year, whereas the locally manufactured Elantra HD occupied the eighth position with 350 units in March after its initial launching in the Automech Formula exhibition, followed by New Elantra AD, achieving sales of 311 units after its launching.
i10 occupied the tenth position on the list of Hyundai sales during the first quarter with 261 units, a growth of 8%, compared to the same period in 2015 with 242 sold units.
