Djokovic wins 2016 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament

Djokovic, ranked first internationally, managed to reach the finals after defeating Spain’s Rafael Nadal, ranked fifth internationally, in the semi-finals, with scores of 7-6 and 6-2

The 2016 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament concluded in Indian Wells, California on 20 March, where Serbian Novak Djokovic was announced the tournament’s champion.

This victory will mark his fifth BNP Paribas Open title.

Djokovic, ranked first internationally, managed to reach the finals after defeating Spain’s Rafael Nadal, ranked fifth internationally, in the semi-finals, with scores of 7-6 and 6-2.

This is not the first time Djokovic and Nadal have faced-off this year. In the Qatar ExxonMobil Tennis Open, both faced each other in the finals, with Djokovic once again emerging victorious, with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

The two have now played a total of 49 matches against each other, where Nadal won 23 times, while Djokovic won 26 times.

Further, in the 2016 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament, in the other semi-final match, Canada’s Milos Raonic defeated Belgium’s David Goffin, with scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 6-3.

Thus, the final was set between Djokovic and Raonic. Unsurprisingly, the winner was Djokovic, who defeated Raonic, with scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

This year Djokovic managed to defend his title from last year, as he was also the winner of the 2015 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament.
