Media members referred to criminal court for charges of defamation to Al-Zend

The media members are charged with defaming Al-Zend and other Egyptian judges.


Investigating judge Fathy Bayomi decided to refer editor-in-chief of state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram Hisham Younis and its journalist Ahmed Amer to the Cairo Criminal Court Wednesday on charges of libel and slander of Minister of Justice Ahmed Al-Zend.

Bayoumi also decided to refer editor-in-chief of Al-Masreyoon (The Egyptians) newspaper Gamal Sultan, its executive editor-in-chief Mahmoud Sultan, and journalist Iman Yehia to the criminal court for the same charges.

The media members are charged with defaming Al-Zend and other Egyptian judges.

General Attorney General Nabil Sadek referred the investigation of the case of the Lands of the Port Said Judges Club to investigating judge Fathy Bayomi. Al-Zend filed a complaint against the media members who published an article in Al-Ahram newspaper about lands Al-Zend is alleged to have illegally sold while president of the club.
