Egypt won the 27th World Speed Ball Championship held in Krakow, Poland between from 18 to 24 November.
Of Egypt’s adult team of 14 players, seven male players and seven female players, seven players were part of Heliopolis Sporting Club (HSC).
Mohamed Nagy, playing for HSC, acquired the solo gold medal with 606 serves, which is considered a new international record. The pervious record was 596 serves achieved by Ali Imam, who played for the same club in the World Championship held in Kuwait in 2014.
Roaa El-Helaly, also a member of HSC, won the women’s individual gold medal after defeating France’s Celine Lacomble (2-0). This is El-Helaly’s fifth women’s individual gold medal throughout her career.
As for Egypt’s junior team, Salma Abdallah won the gold medal against her counterparts from India and Poland, during the semi-final and the final matches respectively.
Tunisia was another Arab country participating in this championship, taking seventh place.
France took second place in the championship, Japan finished in third place, India in fourth, Germany in fifth, Poland in sixth, Kuwait in eighth and Ukraine in ninth.
