Court acquits 112 revolution anniversary detainees

Detainees arrested in Moski on 25 January were initially handed prison sentences

The Moski Misdemeanour Court of Appeals in Cairo acquitted on Sunday 112 defendants arrested on the third anniversary of the 25 January Revolution, according to state-owned newspaper Al Ahram.

The court accepted the appeal by the 112 defendants against their one-year sentences. The defendants were charged with violating the Protest Law, rioting, inciting violence, and blocking roads, and assaulting police personnel.

During the third anniversary of the 25 January Revolution, nationwide clashes erupted between security forces and protesters, leaving 103 dead, according to independent group WikiThawra. The Ministry of Health’s official death toll was 49 and according to the interior ministry, 1,079 people were arrested.
