Gaber Gad Nassar, Cairo University chairman, announced that the university has contracted the National Service Sector, part of the Armed Forces, to provide its dormitories with food supplies, state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported on Saturday.

According to Nassar, the products of the National Service Sector are cheaper than the ones of the former supplier. The new deal follows an evaluation of the food supply costs, as these have recently been separated from the dormitory fees for students, he added.

Final examinations continued on Saturday after a one-week break for the presidential elections. State media reported that the examination process was going smoothly.

Youssof Salhen, spokesman of the pro-Morsi group Students Against the Coup, has previously mentioned that the group would not call for a boycott of the exams of the second semester, as it had done during the exams in the first semester.

The examinations were advanced by the Supreme Council of Universities, limiting the second semester to eight weeks, due to the violent protests in universities across the country. Clashes  started last October between students that support the ousted president Mohamed Morsi and security forces, resulting in a death toll of 16 students and hundreds of detainees.
