Police forces found explosives in a car that attacked the Seba’eya security checkpoint in Edfu in the governorate of Aswan on Saturday, security sources said.

Amr Abdel Wahab, head of the public relations at Aswan Security Directorate, said that a group of armed men fired at the police forces at the checkpoint Saturday evening.

Abdel Wahab said that both parties exchanged fire and then the police attempted to chase the gunmen, after which they fled, leaving their car behind.

Police forces found a homemade bomb and explosives in the car, in addition to a number plate indicating that the car originated from Suez.

Abdel Wahab added that police forces are still not sure whether the owner of the car is related to the incident or if the car was stolen.

He also said that nobody was injured during the attack.
