CAIRO: The prosecution heard the testimony of Pope Shenouda’s secretary Bishop Armia in the case of Kamilia Shehata Thursday, with Papal sources confirming to Daily News Egypt that Armia was summoned before Shehata’s TV appearance where she denied converting to Islam.
Sources said that prosecution interrogated Bishop Aghabious of Der Mois Monastery to which Shehata belongs, confirming that Shehata never converted to Islam and has never been forcibly held by the church.
Shehata’s lawyer Naguib Gobrael told Daily News Egypt that Shehata agreed to appear before prosecution, "but no specific date was set because we are taking the necessary security measures for her."
Sources said that the prosecution asked Armia about his connection to Shehata’s appearance on a Coptic satellite channel.
"Kamilia is responsible for her actions, she willingly appeared on Al-Hayat Channel after several religious groups called on her to appear,” Armia said.
Shehata appeared on Al-Hayat Coptic Satellite Channel with her husband priest Tadaous Samaan and their son to confirm that she is Coptic and never converted to Islam. She also confirmed that she is living with her husband of her own free will.
